Freshness, Colour & Dancing Light

The Goderich Co-op Gallery’s most popular artist is returning for the month of September. In preparing for this exhibit of new work, Barbara has chosen, “to paint simple objects, landscapes, some florals – all subjects that we know and enjoy.”
Living in Huron County, “I am constantly reminded of the beauty that is surrounding all of us every day,” she declares.
“Looking closely at nature we find the most wonderful freshness, colours and dancing light. I hope that by viewing these paintings we might all take another look in our gardens, woodlands, and our great Huron coastline, to enjoy the natural beauty that is there.”
Formerly a professional registered nurse in the Windsor, Detroit areas, Barbara and her husband Les, retired to Goderich in 1996, but recently moved to the Grand Bend area. She has been painting almost daily, taking regular excursions through our small towns and villages, and into the countryside, for unending inspirations that evolve into her completed works.
His skills have been enhanced by a foundation of ongoing instruction in fine art at the University of Windsor and at the Bloomfield Heights Art Centre. She takes regular workshops to stimulate and broaden her vast knowledge of technical skills.
Barbara uses the media of oils and acrylics to produce her work. She has mastered a technique of mixing colour on her brush as she works on the canvas. This technique creates a brilliance and a purity that is always lustrous and clear. Her work always appears fresh and almost alive.
She is presently exhibiting at JMR Gallery, Bayfield; Artistix Gallery, London; Shayne Gallery, Montreal; Elizabeth’s Art Gallery, Goderich; and, Baillie’s Framing and Art, Grand Bend. Her work is found in many private and commercial collections across the continent.
She has accumulated a reputation as a community favourite through shows and awards such as the Blyth Community Art Show, has been a 2004 winner at the Huron County Museum Latimer show, and recently won a Paint Ontario Founder’s Award 2007 and 2008.
