Paul Cousteils
Media Preferences: Oils & Acrylics
After having worked in Toronto for the past 25 years Paul and his family decided to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and found a nice quite spot in Goderich.
Later in life I travelled to Europe where I lived for 3 years on the island of Jersey, Channel Islands. During my stay I studied art at Victoria College with local artist and teacher Robert Tilling, well known in Jersey & the U.K. and joined a group of local artists called the Spectrum Group, which exhibited at various galleries on the island. I also worked as a graphic artist designing ads, show posters, historical booklets and display materials created under direction of Alan Eaton (the prankster) and Jack Laidler grumpy old guy who knows a great deal about colour mixing and screen printing and last but not least Eamon Bougeard friend and artist. All the artwork, print production was done by hand . It was the best place to learn graphic design and layout under a great group of talented artists.
On my return to Canada I studied at Ontario College of Art specializing in fine arts (painting and sculpture) and display & exhibit design. I have freelanced as graphic designer for Olympia & York Properties and the Bank of MontreaI and have done display and exhibit design for the C.N.E , Astro Zodiac and Screemers.
Since moving to Huron County, the scenic landscape, gentle pace of life and local theatre has been
an inspiration to paint. As an Artist I love to explore the effect of “light”. It gives life to every day objects, creating atmosphere....
