Linda Wiebe - Encaustic paint and mixed media
I make art with the intention to enliven and inspire.
I create spontaneously, combining a selection of materials with encaustic paint, while relying on—and trusting—play and intuition to guide the development of my imagery. Titles for each piece serve as doorways, inviting viewers to connect with their own memory and imagination. My art is like an image from a dream, telling stories that are connected to, yet exist outside of, everyday experience.
Encaustic paint is a mixture of beeswax, damar resin, and pigment. I work while the wax is in a molten state, fusing each layer to ensure a strong bond with the one beneath it. I love this medium for its texture and for the translucent quality it brings to layers of colour. Encaustic is an ancient medium—paintings created in Greco-Roman Egypt still exist today, a testament to its enduring nature.
